Common questions

I emptied the basket but my disk is still full.

Moving things to the Trash does not free space — macOS only reclaims it when the Trash is emptied. Mote says so after every tidy, and keeps a reminder in the toolbar showing how much is still sitting there. Click it to open the Trash in Finder, then empty it.

The totals look too small.

macOS locks some folders away from apps by default. When Mote is refused, it tells you plainly rather than quietly under-reporting. To measure everything, grant Full Disk Access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access, switch Mote on, then scan again. Granting it does not re-measure on its own — you need a fresh scan.

Is it safe to delete what Mote flags as safe?

Items marked safe are things macOS or your apps will rebuild on their own — caches, build folders, simulator runtimes, old installers. Items marked worth keeping are ones you would miss, like your Photos library or backups. Mote never deletes anything by itself: things only move when you put them in the basket and press the button, and they go to the Trash, where you can put them back.

What does the free plan include?

Everything. All the mapping, searching and flagging is free and unlimited. The only limit is how much you can move to the Trash through Mote: 10 GB in total. Mote Pro lifts that for good.

I bought Pro and it isn't showing up.

Open the Pro window from the Mote menu and press Restore Purchase, making sure you are signed in to the same Apple Account you bought it with. Pro is a one-time purchase tied to your Apple Account, so it works on every Mac you sign in on.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple Account.

Which Macs does it run on?

Mote needs macOS 15 or later, and runs natively on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

Does Mote send anything anywhere?

No. It has no network access whatsoever — the app is built without the entitlement that would allow it. See the privacy policy.
